We are asking Dallas Animal Services to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding two cats who were rescued in poor medical condition and carefully consider all available evidence before making any decision about their future or whether they should be returned to their previous home.

Dallas Animal Services has stated that it will investigate the situation, and we appreciate that the case is being reviewed. We are asking that the investigation be complete, thorough, and focused on the cats’ health, safety, and welfare.

A tuxedo cat was repeatedly found outside day and night and eventually developed bleeding paws, a bleeding mouth, pale and swollen gums, skin irritation, and other signs that she urgently needed medical care.

After she was taken to Dallas Animal Services, it was discovered that she was microchipped to a nearby home.

When the rescuer approached the home, an elderly woman stated that the family was moving soon and said, “Take all the cats, we’re dumping them.” There were three cats associated with the home.

A third cat, a calico, could not be rescued, and her current condition and whereabouts remain a serious concern.

The second rescued cat, an orange male, was later found outside severely underweight and struggling to eat.

Both rescued cats were taken for veterinary care and were found to be malnourished and suffering from serious dental and gum disease. The orange cat also tested positive for FIV.

These animals have already endured significant health problems and required immediate care.

We respectfully ask Dallas Animal Services to:

● Conduct a full and thorough welfare investigation, as it has agreed to do, before making any decision regarding these cats.

● Review all veterinary records, photographs, statements, and other available evidence regarding their condition.

● Investigate the circumstances surrounding the third cat, the calico, and make every reasonable effort to determine her condition and whereabouts.

● Give the health, safety, and welfare of these animals serious consideration before determining whether returning them is appropriate.

● Ensure that no animal is returned to an unsafe or neglectful environment simply because of existing microchip registration.

● Consider all relevant evidence and the cats’ medical needs before making any final decision about their future.

These cats cannot speak for themselves.
