Protect Trail Christian Fellowship: Say NO to the Highway 62 Cell Tower
The Issue
To the Jackson County Planning Commission and Development Services,
As members, neighbors, and friends of the Trail Christian Fellowship community at 18881 Hwy 62 in Eagle Point, Oregon, we are writing to voice our strong opposition to the proposed commercial telecommunications tower planned for the lot immediately adjacent to our church campus.
For over 40 years, our church has served as a peaceful, rural sanctuary for hundreds of families in the Rogue Valley. Placing a massive, industrial wireless facility right on our property line creates a severe land-use conflict that threatens our historic place of worship.
We urge Jackson County to DENY this permit based on three critical local criteria:
1. Visual Blight on a Scenic Corridor: Highway 62 is a vital scenic gateway to Crater Lake. A towering commercial structure on this lot is completely incompatible with the forested, rural character of the area and creates an immediate visual blight on our church campus.
2. Failure to Exhaust Better Alternatives: Under Oregon land use standards, telecom applicants must prove they are using the least intrusive means to fill coverage gaps. We demand the county strictly scrutinize the applicant's Alternatives Analysis to ensure they exhaust commercial zones and existing co-location structures further down Highway 62 before encroaching on a place of worship.
3. Safety and Setback Violations: The narrow lot next door places the physical "fall zone" of a massive tower dangerously close to our church buildings and the outdoor areas where our families, children, and parishioners safely gather every week.
Our Demand for Mitigation: If federal coverage laws ultimately force an approval, we demand that the Jackson County Planning Commission place strict, mandatory conditions on the permit. The applicant must use a fully camouflaged "mono-pine" stealth design to blend into our local timber landscape, and deploy heavy evergreen landscaping to entirely hide the ground utility equipment from church view.
Please protect our community, preserve the Highway 62 scenic corridor, and safeguard the peace of Trail Christian Fellowship.
