TOPANGA ELEMENTARY NEEDS LAUSD'S SUPPORT AND YOUR HELP

Topanga Elementary is a small school that works - Strong test scores, great attendance, a beloved enrichment program and teachers who stay for 20+ years. 

But we're struggling to stay staffed. 

Last year, LAUSD didn’t renew a valued teacher’s contract, and despite a summer-long search, the position was never filled.   Our 4th graders are starting this school year with a substitute instead of a permanent teacher. 

With three more teachers potentially retiring next year, this isn’t a one-time problem — it’s the start of a pattern.

We’re asking LAUSD to:

• Designate Topanga Elementary as a Hard-to-Hire school
• Explore additional staffing protections for small, remote schools
• Offer incentives (stipends, signing bonuses, etc.) to attract teachers to Topanga

Yes, we're a small school.  But small doesn't mean less important.   

Topanga is proof that a small LAUSD school can thrive — and it deserves the support to keep doing so.
