Protect the Wildlife Corridor at Clavering Road Seaforth

The Minns Government is planning to sell 7 house blocks of natural bushland at Clavering Rd Seaforth. This small parcel of land is now under immediate threat of being handed to housing developers. This Govt action will destroy this natural bushland forever. This biodiverse green belt is home to multiple species of flora and fauna, providing an essential habitat and a pathway for wildlife movement and migration in the area. However, ongoing urban development and insufficient protective measures puts this precious ecosystem at risk again.
Its a knee jerk decision by the current government to sell off this small parcel of land in the name of "Sydneys Housing Crisis". This land will only house a small group of people by comparison to land lots also in Sydney that are far more environmentally safe to develop. This is an extremely poor decision by the government if they proceed. Local residents are strongly AGAINST this proposed development.
Safety risks for local residents will increase with large earthmoving moving equipment moving in and out of these narrow roads (Dalwood Avenue Gurney Crescent and Clavering Road). This landscape is steep and very time consuming to develop, it will create 3 times the pollution level land would create and it needs to be stopped. Houses in lower Gurney Crescent will be at risk of falling debris from the development sites above, if this plan proceeds.
The wildlife corridor's destruction could lead to significant biodiversity loss - a study found that these small intense green belts can support up to 30% more species than surrounding bushland regions (Smith et al., 2013). Moreover, it's not just local wildlife that will suffer. Destruction of such ecosystems will lead to negative impacts on broader wildlife structure.
The urgency of preserving our wildlife corridors is more crucial now than ever before. We urge the relevant authorities to take immediate steps in enforcing stronger protective measures for the Wildlife Corridor at Clavering Road Seaforth. The world is rapidly losing its biodiversity, and every action counts. Your signature can help to protect this crucial ecosystem and the species that reside in it. Please sign this petition today.
