We, the undersigned students and parents of Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, would like to express our deep concern and frustration regarding the behavior of Mr. Ray Alcala, who has been displaying emotionally abusive behavior and ableist curriculum/grading methods towards students in Physical Education. We request that Mr. Ray Alcala be put on immediate leave while a thorough investigation can be conducted and a substitute teacher be put in place.

Mr. Ray Alcala has consistently demonstrated behaviors that create a hostile and intimidating environment for students. The way he speaks to students is often inappropriate, which has resulted in numerous instances of students feeling intimidated, overwhelmed, embarrassed, and dismissed in his classroom. This type of emotional abuse has caused many students, past and present, to feel anxious and depressed, impacting their academic performance and their overall well-being.

Several parents have filed complaints for multiple years without proper recourse. This petition serves to show the board the collective impact his behavior has had on both students and their families. We believe that his behavior is unacceptable and warrants immediate action. We implore the school administration to take the necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of students by placing Mr. Alcala on leave while conducting a thorough investigation in the hopes he does not return in the next academic year 2023-24 and thereafter.
