Protect the rights of Indian Muslims under Modi government

Protect the rights of Indian Muslims under Modi government
The Issue
The situation for Indian Muslims under the current government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become increasingly troubling. Over the past few years, there have been numerous reports of discrimination, violence, and marginalisation faced by the Muslim community in India. This petition seeks to draw international attention to the plight of Indian Muslims and urge the Indian government to take immediate action to ensure their safety and protect their rights.
According to a Human Rights Watch report, discriminatory laws and policies against Muslims have been implemented, which has exacerbated tensions and increased instances of communal violence. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) are examples that many fear could be used to disenfranchise and marginalise the Muslim population in the country.
The United Nations and various human rights organisations have also raised concerns over these developments, highlighting the need for India to uphold principles of equality, justice, and religious freedom as enshrined in its constitution.
We urge the Indian government to:
1. Re-examine and amend legislation such as the CAA and NRC that adversely affect the Muslim community and lead to social division.
2. Ensure that law enforcement agencies are adequately trained to handle issues of religious discrimination and communal violence without bias.
3. Foster an environment of tolerance and inclusiveness by promoting dialogue between different religious communities.
4. Take immediate steps to investigate and prosecute acts of violence and discrimination against Muslims.
This is not just an appeal to the Indian government, but a call to the global community to stand in solidarity with Indian Muslims in their quest for justice and equality. Silence and inaction will only embolden those who seek to perpetrate hate and division.
Please join us by signing this petition. Together we can make a difference and advocate for the protection and equality of Indian Muslims.
