Protect the Prairie Dog Population on Route 66 and Sarah Road

The Issue

I have dedicated much of my life to observing and cherishing the remarkable prairie dog families that inhabit the areas around Route 66 and Sarah Road. Their presence has filled my days with joy and maintained the vibrant spirit of our community. However, their habitat is now under threat, and we must act to preserve this critical part of our local ecosystem.

Prairie dogs have an essential role in the ecosystem. They help to aerate and enrich the soil, which benefits numerous plant and animal species, and their burrows provide shelter for other wildlife. Despite their ecological importance, their population is estimated to have declined by more than 95% in the past 150 years due to habitat loss, poisoning, and disease (Source: Humane Society of the United States).

The intersection of Route 66 and Sarah Road is a sanctuary for these little families, but it is no longer safe. Development plans for this area threaten their habitat, and if action is not taken, we could lose this prairie dog population forever.

We are calling on local decision-makers to reconsider their plans and to take into account the needs of all the inhabitants of the area, human and animal alike. Affirming the ecological value of prairie dogs, responsibly addressing their habitat's threats, and encouraging the protection of these remarkable creatures is not just a matter of preservation - it is a commitment to the health of our entire local ecosystem.

Please sign this petition today and join us in defending the prairie dogs that bring so much joy to our community.
