The Issue

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose H.R. 4656, introduced by Representative Randy Fine, which could open the door to unsustainable tourism and commercialization in the Ocala National Forest. While we value public access to natural spaces, this bill threatens the long-term health of one of Florida’s most ecologically sensitive regions.

The Ocala National Forest is already federally protected and funded through the U.S. Forest Service, conservation grants, and strategic partnership agreements. Additional legislation promoting tourism is not only unnecessary but also dangerous to the fragile ecosystems, endangered species, and quiet rural communities that call this area home.

❗ Our concerns include:
Environmental Damage: Increased tourism often brings habitat destruction, soil erosion, litter, noise pollution, and the disruption of native wildlife.
Strained Infrastructure: Local roads, park facilities, and safety services are not equipped to handle a dramatic rise in visitors.
Loss of Cultural Identity: Local communities value the Ocala National Forest for its peace, beauty, and ecological significance—not as a commercialized tourist attraction.
Redundancy and Risk: The forest is already supported by federal conservation programs. H.R. 4656 risks undermining those protections in favor of short-term economic interests.
✅ What we support:
Stronger environmental protections and science-based forest management
Funding for conservation, wildfire prevention, and restoration—not commercialization
Sustainable, low-impact recreation that preserves natural integrity
Respect for rural community values and input
By signing this petition, you are standing up for Florida’s wild places, for science-based land stewardship, and for the protection of public lands from overdevelopment and exploitation.

Say NO to H.R. 4656 and YES to preserving the Ocala National Forest for future generations.
