The Issue

Bexar County has proposed a budget of  $3 Million to build a park with walking trails in the floodplain of Medio Creek near Talley Road in far west Bexar County. This is adamantly opposed by the adjacent Hilltop Acres subdivision which will have the most disruption.

This area:

> Serves as one of the few remaining mixed wildlife sanctuaries. All the recent development has severely restricted where the local diverse wildlife can live and eat, and the floodplain of Medio Creek is ideal for giving them a place to exist. The explosive growth of new housing causes wildlife species to be displaced out of their traditional areas and are moving into the subdivisions to SURVIVE. Where will they go if more of their food and living sources are paved over? How many deer will be hurt crossing busy roads to get to food? This will cause accidents, with animals possibly being severely injured /killed or even injuring/killing people.

> Preserves the floodplain from more frequent and severe flooding by leaving trees/grasses holding soil to absorb the water unlike letting it run off as concrete does. Years ago FEMA declared that no building could be done on the land due to severe flooding and sewage problems. This must be completely explored and mitigated before anything begins

> Historically important The archeological survey done in 1977 has confirmed that the area is a former living space for prehistoric people and should be respected. There is a Federal restriction against digging, which should have stopped this project immediately. No building can be done on the land.

By allowing this project construction to proceed, we risk causing irreversible damage

We urge decision-makers not only to consider our personal concerns but also to take into account the broader implications for wildlife preservation, flood control, and cultural heritage protection. REJECTING this proposal will allow wildlife to flourish on the edges of civilization. Leave the Medio Creek floodplain to the fawns and foxes.
