We, the undersigned, urge the City of Toronto to honor its pledge to safeguard 3100 Weston Road as a Designated Historic Property. This site, which includes the renowned Gardiner (Rivermede) House  (of the Gardiner Museum),  the frequently-visited Marian Shrine of Gratitude, and the Carmine Stefano Community Centre (with its historic former St. Basil the Great High School chapel) an irreplaceable part of our city's heritage, and its protection is a promise made not just to today’s residents, but to future generations.

A mere four months after the City Council unanimously agreed to protect this historic property in May 2025, the same Council has now approved developer subsidies that threaten to erase 3100 Weston Road Toronto's historic designation forever. On October 9, 2025, taxpayer dollars were allocated for the construction of 480 units.  AvranceCorp Developments, the developer, hopes to build 2,400 units, as advertised on its website. The city financed 480 units; however, the information to the community by city officials covered only the construction of 125 units.  The community was called for consultation on February 26, 2026 (after the fact that money was already handed out last year in October 2025), before this said consultation, which is part of the process of application for the construction of a building in the city. This action will jeopardize the very community and heritage the Council vowed to protect.

City officials have refused to be transparent about their decisions. They have withheld crucial information on how zoning amendments and taxpayer subsidies were orchestrated to facilitate its construction without informing the community. This lack of transparency undermines public confidence and raises troubling questions about whose interests are truly being served. Transparency is essential for the community to trust that decisions are made fairly and openly.

Public trust in Toronto’s planning process hinges on accountability. Only by releasing ALL information related to 3100 Weston Road’s zoning and developer subsidies can the City begin to restore that trust and demonstrate that it acts in the public’s best interest.

We implore the City Council to take immediate action: release ALL documents and communications related to 3100 Weston Road’s zoning, developer subsidies, and any related correspondence, including zoning and subsidy information. The people of Toronto deserve transparency, honesty, and a government that upholds its commitments.
