The Issue

On 10.20.15, an e-mail correspondence from the Office of the Mills College President informed students and alumni of major curriculum revisions that will have a drastic impact in the college at-large.

One of the proposed changes is to eliminate the Major in Spanish and Spanish American Studies (SSAS), reducing the study of Spanish Language, Culture and Literature to a Concentration and a Minor only. This program not only has been a cornerstone for the liberal arts education at Mills College, but also offers students valuable and irreplaceable tools for a global competitive world.

Students have put together the following petition to save the Major in Spanish and Spanish American Studies. If you took classes at the program, got a Spanish Major or Minor, are a supporter of the Hispanic/Latina/Latino cultural and linguistic heritage or value the importance of languages and literatures studies, sign this petition to advocate for the retention of the Major in Spanish and Spanish American Studies Program.

PLEASE sign the petition below and share with others to show to all that we value this program. YOUR SIGNATURE WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE! THANK YOU!
