The Cot Valley, in West Penwith , is one of Cornwalls special places. Its hard geology and wet climate yields peaty fields , a fast flowing stream and steep sided wooded Valley with the occasional scrub land. Irregular enclosures of elevated pasture bordered by Bronze Age Ancient hedges. The stream flowing through the base of this Valley and eventually out to sea at the little gem of Porth Nanven. Important species like Trout and Sargosso Eels inhabit these stretches of fast running water. A myriad of creatures supported by the stream , and inhabiting its lush Valley. Cornwall AONB is a sensitive area with National and Globally important conservation significance.
The richest sites for Wildlife are too few and too small and too degraded by man. The COT VALLEY IS AN EXCEPTION . Nature rich areas such as this must be preserved not enhanced with a man made ornamental Lake.
20%-40% of our wildlife is being damaged by man. This wonderful Valley is on the brink!
If we are to save this small, but precious Valley in West Penwith ,all developments such as this must STOP, and allow the reed beds and flood plain to be reinstated.
CORNWALL COUNCIL has a strategy /network , with a statement of BIO Diversity Strategies. With a Policy of THE RIGHT HABITAT in the right places. They state that the Nature Recovery Strategy is Vital and outlines priorities for the recovery of Cornwalls Habitats for the varied species they support YET this large excavation, made with no planning permission, affecting the streams flow, and therefore the habitat of a myriad of creatures and plant life , which exists and has evolved over thousands of years to dangerously and irreparably damage the natural state of this Valley. Gentrification , Stone quays, Granite steps, Gate posts with finials , high soil banks silting and choking the stream and vegetation. It is not an enhancement as some state. WHY does the CORNWALL COUNCIL allow this to happen. Almost three years of Battling.
