This land is well fenced , which is needed, for the few Cattle that roam the fields around the pond, also trampling the soil banks into the Cot Stream causing even further pollution.
As can be seen in the picture , double fencing with barbed wire , and trees planted in between , means that those walking the footpaths will not see this pond , which is pro ported to be for the benefit of all to see and enjoy, and for the wildlife and bio diversity it will create. When the trees are fully grown walkers , especially on the Bosavern path will be walking a corridor of trees and have no views of this beautiful and scenic Valley.
To quote one local resident
”I am actually more concerned about the associated barbed wire fencing and the blocking of ancient gateways and footpaths, particularly access to Tom Thumb Rock, and a short cut from Bosorne to Bosavern.”
This Valley has been much loved and walked for hundreds of years, and people have walked the many paths which used to criss cross the fields. The farmer who farmed this land for years always allowed people to cross the Land. He said that in all the years he was tenant he never experienced littering or gates left open. There was a mutual respect on both sides. Tom Thumb was accessible to all, for family picnics , a place for children to play. Or just to sit and admire the panoramic view.
This can no longer happen.
The Valley has a very special place in the hearts of most St Justers and many have tales to tell of their childhood adventures and their teenage escapades. Courtship and marriage proposals.
This special place does not need a pond or any form of development , what it needs , is to be left alone in its natural and original state. Domestication of this vibrant valley is an abberation of all it represents.
