Protect the Civic Arts Plaza: No 4 or 7-Story Towers in Thousand Oaks

The Issue

To: Thousand Oaks City Council & Planning Commission
We, the undersigned residents and stakeholders, strongly oppose the proposed Downtown Thousand Oaks Project DTTO development that includes a 7-story hotel, a 7-story 161-unit mixed-use building, and a 4-story 79-unit building2 within the heart of our city.
This project represents a gross overdevelopment that destroys the semi-rural, low-density atmosphere that defines Thousand Oaks.

Destruction of Natural Heritage: The removal of 53 protected trees and the encroachment into the zone of 39 additional protected trees is an ecological tragedy, stripping the area of the majestic oak landscape that gives our community its name and charm.

Urbanization of a Quiet Community: Constructing multiple seven-story buildings contradicts the city's commitment to maintaining a semi-rural feel. This project will destroy scenic views and create a dense urban environment with unmanageable traffic congestion.

Irreparable Character Loss: We did not move to or remain in the Conejo Valley to live next to high-rise hotels and massive, dense urban complexes. This development will permanently damage the quality of life, environmental balance, scenic beauty, and the semi rural ambiance of Thousand Oaks.

We demand that the Planning Commission and City Council amend this development plan to reject high rise sprawl by upholding existing zoning heights, saving the trees, and prioritizing current residents over, and not at the behest of, corporate power or billionaires.  Preserve the small town Character of Thousand Oaks.
