PROTECT THE ALI ACT - KEEP DANA WHITE OUT OF BOXING
The Issue
We are deeply concerned about the plans of Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), to step into the boxing arena. It worries me, along with other stakeholders, because of the numerous reports of unfair fighter treatment under his leadership. The cage may have different rules, but the right to fair treatment is constant, and that appears to lack in Dana White's style of management.
Ironically, the UFC saw a boom in commercial success during White's tenure. However, multiple fighters have spoken out about the raw deals they receive, especially the compensation for their fights. According to a 2018 study from the MMA Association, fighters in the UFC only took home about 13 - 16% of the organization’s total revenues, whereas athletes in other prominent sports leagues often enjoy a close to 50% share of revenues [1].
If White brings his style of management to boxing, it could potentially damage the fairness and integrity of the sport. Boxing, like any other sport, should be a venue for athletes to show their skills and get fairly compensated for their craft.
The Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act (Ali Act) was established to protect fighters from exploitation, ensuring they receive fair contracts and transparent financial disclosures. With this petition, we intend to uphold and reinforce the Ali Act by urging boxing commissions and sanctioning bodies to scrutinize and regulate any promotional entity entering the sport. We call for strict oversight to prevent any UFC-style labor exploitation from taking hold in boxing and to ensure that all fighters—whether in established promotions or new ventures—are given their rightful protections under the law.
We encourage all those who believe in fair treatment, respect, and protection of athletes' rights to sign this petition. Help us keep boxing a fair play for athletes. Sign the petition today.
