Protect Texans' Access to Hemp THC – Support Responsible Regulation, Not Prohibition
The Issue
We, the undersigned, stand firmly against Texas Senate Bill 3, proposed by Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and Sen. Charles Perry, which seeks to ban all hemp-derived THC cannabinoids across the state. This bill, if passed, would unjustly strip thousands of Texans of access to essential hemp-based products that provide relief from chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic insomnia and countless other conditions.
Lt. Governor Patrick claims this legislation is intended to protect children from accessing these products. However, Texas currently lacks any statewide regulations on age restrictions and child-safe packaging for hemp-derived products. Rather than resorting to an outright ban, we believe the most effective way to protect minors is through sensible legislation that enforces age restrictions, mandates proper labeling, and ensures products are securely packaged – not by criminalizing beneficial cannabinoids that many Texans rely on for their well-being.
For countless individuals, hemp-derived cannabinoids offer a natural alternative to addictive pharmaceuticals and opioids, contributing to better quality of life and mental health. Veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities are among those who would be most affected by this sweeping prohibition. Eliminating access to these products would not only punish responsible adults but could exacerbate the very public health crises Texas lawmakers claim to address.
We urge the Texas Legislature to oppose SB 3 and instead pursue common-sense reforms that balance public safety with compassionate access. By implementing age restrictions, requiring child-resistant packaging, and ensuring transparency in product marketing, Texas can protect its youth without depriving its citizens of vital, plant-based relief.
Stand with ZAR Wellness in advocating for thoughtful, responsible cannabis policy – one that safeguards Texas kids while preserving access for those in need.
