This is not just an invasion of my personal space; it potentially jeopardizes the safety of my family, alerting criminals to our possessions and endangering our children and grandchildren. It's time landlords and real estate agencies respect tenants' privacy and copyright laws.

In today's real estate market, it's common for agents to take photos of properties for advertisements. However, what many don't realize is that these photos often include personal property, family photos, and original artwork. These items aren't just decor; they are pieces of our lives, narratives etched in time that should not be casually disseminated without consent. Invasion of privacy isn’t merely about annoyance, it's about our safety and our legal rights.

According to the UK's Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, original artwork created qualifies for copyright protection and can't be duplicated or distributed without permission from the artist. Yet, agents frequently capture these works in their sales and rental photos, flagging them in advertising materials that are circulated widely and without our explicit consent.

This practice also poses security risks. When photos of our homes, with all its unique and personal contents, are widely disseminated on the internet, we are unknowingly showcasing our lives to potential criminals. It is a sad reality that homes can become targets after being publicly displayed in such detail.

I am calling upon real estate agencies to implement clear policies to protect tenants during the marketing of properties. Photos should only be taken when absolutely necessary, avoiding any identifiable personal items, family photographs, or original artwork. Tenants should also be given the right to review and approve what is shared.

We urge legislators to tighten existing laws regarding the protection of personal property and privacy for tenants, ensuring all marketing practices by real estate agencies comply with copyright laws and personal privacy regulations.
