The Issue

The Tay Loop Trail has long been a sanctuary for people of all ages and abilities. Families with toddlers and infants stroll along its paths, seniors relish the fresh air and scenic views, and individuals with special needs find solace in its accessible routes. On any given day, you'll find walkers, cyclists, runners, bird-watchers, and nature lovers enjoying the serenity and beauty of this jewel in the heart of Tay Municipality. It's a place of peace where people can sit on one of the benches and immerse themselves in the wonders of nature.

However, the Tay Municipality Council is planning to convert this peaceful retreat into a noisy and dangerous track for snowmobiles, ATVs, quad bikes, and other motorized vehicles. Portions of the Trail have already been altered into a 'multi-use' trail, allowing these vehicles to intrude on this delicate ecosystem. If this transformation becomes a permanent, year-round change, it will drastically alter the atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

Introducing motorized vehicles to the Tay Trail poses several significant challenges. Noise pollution will replace the tranquil sounds of nature, and the safety of those who use the trail for walking, cycling, or leisurely enjoyment will be at risk. Furthermore, this alteration could damage the natural environment, disrupting wildlife habitats and potentially reducing the diversity of species that call this trail home.

It is crucial that we preserve this Trail in its intended form — as a haven for non-motorized activities that honour and protect the environment. To achieve this, we must urge the Tay Municipality Council to reconsider their decision. A feasible solution is to maintain separate tracks within the Trail for motorized and non-motorized uses or to designate entirely different areas for motorized vehicles, thus ensuring the Trail remains a place of rest and relaxation for all.

To protect the Tay Trail and to ensure it remains a sanctuary for generations to come, your voice is needed. Please sign this petition and help us convey to the Tay Municipality Council the importance of preserving the peace and natural beauty of this beloved space.
