Protect Survivors from the "Voluntary Intoxication" Defense! Help Pass Assembly Bill A1065

The Issue

Did you know that in New York State if someone drinks too much by choice - or becomes otherwise intoxicated - this can be used against them if they are sexually assaulted at any point later in the night?   That's right.  It's known as the Voluntary Intoxication Legal Loophole.  And some predators are aware of this gray zone.

Why would this be?   Well, the unfounded fear of "an innocent man going to jail" trumps the factual number of thousands of sexual assaults committed per year on innocent people who were intoxicated.

Fact is - in the history of New York there is not one case of an innocent person getting wrongfully committed in New York for voluntary intoxication. Despite this the Assembly has failed to bring this bill to a vote for three years in a row!  The Senate however passes it every year.
