The Issue

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the current leadership of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Johnson County, an organization entrusted with the care and advocacy of abused children in our community.

Recently, Executive Director Tammy King publicly organized a fundraiser to support her husband, Sheriff Adam King, who is currently facing felony charges of retaliation against a witness and abuse of office related to sexual harassment allegations. In her fundraising appeal, Mrs. King described the alleged victims as “liars” and characterized the allegations as false.

This creates a profound conflict of interest:

  1. An executive leader of a child advocacy nonprofit should never publicly discredit victims of abuse.
  2. Survivors and families must have absolute confidence that their disclosures will be believed, respected, and handled with care.
  3. Public trust in the Children’s Advocacy Center of Johnson County is at stake when its leader undermines the very mission of protecting victims.

We also note with deep concern that members of the Center’s Board of Directors publicly supported this fundraiser. A board’s role is to safeguard the integrity of an organization’s mission, not to enable leadership behaviors that compromise it.

We recognize the difficult work advocacy centers do and deeply value the services provided to vulnerable children. That is precisely why leadership integrity and board accountability are non-negotiable.

Our Request
We respectfully call on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Johnson County to:

  1. Acknowledge the harm caused by public statements that discredit survivors.
  2. Take immediate steps to restore trust by ensuring new leadership at both the executive and board levels.
  3. Rebuild the Center’s credibility with the community by committing to transparency, accountability, and survivor-centered practices moving forward.

Only through leadership change can the Children’s Advocacy Center of Johnson County regain the confidence of the families and survivors it is meant to serve.
