The Issue

The ongoing killing of elephants in Sri Lanka breaks our hearts as elephant enthusiasts. These magnificent creatures, who have roamed the lush landscapes of Sri Lanka for centuries, are being threatened at an alarming rate. It is devastating to witness the decline of a population that not only holds cultural and ecological significance but is also a symbol of our heritage and natural pride.

Sri Lanka is home to nearly 6,000 elephants, and they are an integral part of our ecosystems. However, these gentle giants face numerous threats including habitat destruction, human-elephant conflict, and poaching. According to reports, approximately 250 elephants die each year due to these conflicts, and human interventions have not been effective in curbing this crisis.

We must address these issues head-on by implementing stronger legislative measures and conservation strategies. Education and awareness programs are essential to foster community support and understanding of the importance of coexistence. Through these efforts, we can prevent further loss and ensure that future generations can continue to witness the presence of elephants in our wild.

Immediate action is needed to strengthen and enforce wildlife protection laws, create more sanctuaries, and promote sustainable development that considers the welfare of wild elephants. Additionally, supporting local conservation organizations financially and practically can contribute significantly to the protection and growth of elephant populations.

Let us protect them before it's too late. Join us in urging the Sri Lankan government and relevant authorities to take decisive action now. Please sign this petition and stand with us to conserve the majestic wild elephants of Sri Lanka.
