Protect Small Class Sizes at Greenwood Elementary

Protect Small Class Sizes at Greenwood Elementary
The Issue
My children attend Greenwood Elementary in the Kennett Consolidated School District, where they face overcrowded classrooms due to unbalanced school distribution. Unlike other elementary schools in the district, Greenwood struggles with larger class sizes, directly impacting the quality of education and individual attention each student receives.
There is currently a concerning plan to reduce the number of fifth-grade classes from six to five, which would result in class sizes swelling to 26 students. This is not conducive to effective teaching or learning, and as a parent deeply invested in the future of our children, I am urging our school board to act now.
We need the school board to commit to maintaining six fifth-grade classes at Greenwood Elementary, ensuring that class sizes remain at 20 students. Smaller class sizes are crucial for fostering an environment where teachers can provide personalized attention and support, allowing each child to thrive academically and socially.
Furthermore, it is essential to plan for the inevitable growth in our community. Rebalancing the student population across the schools needs immediate attention to prevent further overcrowding at Greenwood and to maintain equitable educational standards district-wide.
Please join me in asking the Kennett Consolidated School District board to take decisive action to protect the quality of education in our district. We must prioritize planning and ensure that each of our elementary schools can offer an optimal learning environment. Sign this petition to show your support for smaller class sizes and a balanced school population. Together, we can advocate for a better educational experience for all our children.
