Protect Shavano Park – Stop the Cliffside & Windmill Bike Path Expansion and Parking Lot

The Issue

This project impacts every resident of Shavano Park. Families along Windmill Drive would have a 5-foot bike path built directly along their front lawns. Neighbors on Cliffside Drive would see a 10-foot-wide trail cut through our greenway, destroying wildlife habitat. A new parking lot and trailhead on Saddletree Road would bring outside traffic, strangers parking in our neighborhood, and more congestion on quiet residential streets. If this project moves forward, Shavano Park will lose the character that makes it unique: a peaceful oasis, safe streets, and natural green space full of wildlife. Our community’s safety, privacy, and tranquility are at risk. Allowing the project to proceed without full resident input sets a dangerous precedent — if city leaders can push this through without transparency, what will stop them from doing it again? On October 27, 2025, the City Council will vote on whether to accept this grant. Once accepted, the project will be extremely difficult to stop or change. That’s why we must raise our voices now — by signing this petition, emailing council members, and attending the meeting — to protect Shavano Park’s character and demand accountability from our elected officials. No donations are needed at this time. Just signatures!
