The Issue

We, the concerned public, call on the Knysna Local Municipality and environmental authorities to protect RE/1627 (Sedgefield) from inappropriate development that threatens its ecological integrity.*

This property lies within the *Estuarine Functional Zone (EFZ)* of the Swartvlei Estuary — a sensitive and critical ecosystem. About *90% of the site is a Critical Biodiversity Area (CBA - Aquatic)* and borders the *Garden Route National Park*.

The land supports *Dune Fynbos and Wetland ecosystems*, already under pressure from past agriculture and invasive species. Allowing harmful development here would risk permanent environmental damage to one of the last greenfield areas in Sedgefield.

We urge the authorities to prioritise *conservation and eco-sensitive planning* to protect this vital natural area for future generations.
