Protect San Jose Parks and Schools: End Glyphosate and Toxic Pesticide Use in Public Space

The Issue

We are calling on the City of San Jose to immediately stop the use of glyphosate-based herbicides and other harmful pesticides in public parks, school grounds, and recreational areas where children, pets, and families spend time.

These spaces should be safe—not places where families are exposed to chemicals linked to potential health and environmental risks.

Why this matters:

  • Children and pets are more vulnerable to chemical exposure from soil and grass
  • Parks and schoolyards are high-contact environments
  • Chemical residues can linger long after application
  • Many cities have already adopted safer, organic land management practices

What we are asking for:

We urge the City of San Jose to:

  • Phase out glyphosate and other high-risk pesticides in all public spaces
Transition to organic and non-toxic weed and pest management
  • Publicly disclose all pesticide applications and ingredients
  • Work with schools, including San Jose Unified School District, to ensure children’s environments are chemical-free
  • Commit to long-term soil health and ecological stewardship

Our vision:

A city where parks are truly safe, where children can play freely, and where land care supports—not harms—community health.

Call to Action:

Sign this petition if you believe San Jose deserves safe, chemical-free public spaces for all families.
