Protect Reservoir Wood, Llandough's ancient woodland

Protect Reservoir Wood, Llandough's ancient woodland
The Issue
Reservoir Wood is the wooded area at the top of Lewis Road in Llandough, running alongside the hospital. It was recently purchased by a property developer. The Vale of Glamorgan Council have now issued a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) to permanently protect this ancient wood. The developers will challenge the TPO, but we as a community can prevent that challenge by making it clear to the Council that we want to protect the woodland from development.
Reservoir Wood is an ancient woodland that holds a special place in the hearts of local residents and nature enthusiasts alike. Nestled with old and beautiful trees, this woodland is a vibrant ecosystem teeming with a diverse array of wildflowers, ferns, mosses, and fungi. It is a sanctuary for many protected species such as the elusive slow worms, and potentially other endangered species, making it an irreplaceable bastion of natural beauty and biodiversity.
Ancient woodlands like this play a crucial role in sequestering carbon, supporting wildlife, and maintaining soil health. Reservoir Wood is not only a haven for flora and fauna, but it also provides local residents with a serene escape and a place of solitude, recreation, and inspiration. Losing this unique habitat would be a significant blow to both our environment and community.
Reservoir Wood now faces the imminent threat of potential development projects. The destructive impact of such activities cannot be overstated, as they would irreparably damage the delicate ecosystem of this ancient woodland.
We support the local Council's action to protect Reservoir Wood from any development or activities that threaten its existence. Our community values the natural, cultural, and ecological heritage that Reservoir Wood represents, and we ask the Council to take the necessary steps to ensure its conservation for future generations.
Please join us in supporting the Tree Preservation Order for Reservoir Wood. Sign this petition and help us preserve this precious natural haven for years to come.
