Protect Religious Freedom in Texas: Let EPIC City Build

Protect Religious Freedom in Texas: Let EPIC City Build
The Issue
Governor Abbott is trying to block the development of a peaceful, faith-inspired community in Josephine, Texas — simply because it includes a mosque.
EPIC City, a proposed community led by members of the East Plano Islamic Center, is being unfairly targeted. Governor Abbott and other state officials have falsely presented this development as a threat, fueling misinformation and anti-Muslim rhetoric.
They’ve launched overlapping investigations, accused the project leaders of baseless violations, and amplified harmful stereotypes about Islam. EPIC City has broken no laws and has been transparent with state officials.
This is blatant discrimination. It’s an attack on religious freedom and the constitutional right for every American to live and worship freely.
Muslim Americans are our neighbors, colleagues, and friends. They are doctors, teachers, business owners, and community leaders. The East Plano Islamic Center has served its community for two decades — operating food banks, providing mobile medical services, and even serving as Plano’s only warming center during harsh winters. Like many faith-based communities across Texas, they are simply building a space for their families to live, grow, and thrive.
Let’s be clear:
- Religious freedom is a cornerstone of American democracy. No one should be singled out or harassed for practicing their faith.
- There is no legal or moral basis to block this development. Governor Abbott’s rhetoric stokes fear and division.
- Communities of faith have always helped build America. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and many others have established neighborhoods, schools, and places of worship — this is no different.
We call on Governor Abbott and state officials to:
- Stop the baseless investigations and harassment of EPIC City and its developers.
- Cease spreading misinformation and anti-Muslim rhetoric that puts Texas families at risk.
- Affirm the rights of all faith communities to build and thrive in peace.
Texas should be a place where freedom of religion is respected — not a place where fear and prejudice determine who gets to build a home.
Add your name today to stand with the families of EPIC City and defend the freedom of every Texan to live and worship without fear.
