Protect Raja Ampat: Call for Sustainable Tourism to Save the most precious sea-ecosystem

Il problema

Raja Ampat is one of the most extraordinary marine regions on the planet.
Its waters are home to over 75% of the world’s known coral species and more than 1,500 species of fish.

Anyone who visits Raja Ampat understands this immediately: it is breathtaking—and incredibly fragile.

In recent years, tourism has grown rapidly, along with the number of homestays, hotels, and resorts. Tourism brings important opportunities for local communities, but without clear environmental regulations it risks destroying the very ecosystem that makes Raja Ampat so special.

This petition is not against tourism. It is supported by responsible travelers who believe that only truly sustainable tourism can protect Raja Ampat while supporting local livelihoods.

We call on the Government and relevant authorities to require concrete sustainability measures for all accommodation facilities in Raja Ampat, including:

  • environmentally friendly wastewater management systems to prevent marine pollution
  • drastic reduction of single-use plastics, with reusable alternatives and water refill systems
  • use of renewable energy, such as solar power
  • exclusive use of reef-safe personal care products
  • environmental education and awareness programs for tourists and local communities

In a place like Raja Ampat, plastic does not disappear—it ends up in the ocean, on coral reefs, and inside marine life. Reducing single-use plastics is not optional; it is urgent.

Protecting Raja Ampat means protecting the ocean, the communities who depend on it and the future of tourism itself

By signing this petition, you are calling for concrete action to ensure that Raja Ampat remains alive, healthy, and protected—today and for generations to come. The ocean does not have a voice. We do. Let's speak for it.
