Thank you for your support so far! This petition helped object to the Coochin Creek Tourist Park proposal, which closed on 17 Nov. That consultation attracted hundreds of submissions (both for and against). This petition with over 5,000 petition signatures was submitted with a submission.

What’s Next?
The second proposal by the same developer is now open for public consultation until Monday 8 December:
➡️ An adjacent mega Music Festival and Outdoor Exhibition Centre, in the protected Northern Inter Urban Break, close to the RAMSAR listed Pumicestone Passage and surrounding wetlands.

If approved, this development would:

  • host up to 35,000 people per day/night on a 150-hectare site
  • transform a tranquil, flood-prone wetland into an urban-scale entertainment precinct
  • bring weeks of activity for setup and pack-down for each event
  • cause traffic chaos, including heavy vehicle movements and safety risks on rural roads, the Bruce Highway and other connecting roads
  • create noise and light pollution impacting local and other nearby residents and wildlife
  • be a huge fire safety risk with one 2 lane rural road in and out through 10km of pine forest and surrounded by national park
  • put ecological stress on Ramsar wetlands and the Northern Inter-Urban Break
  • set a dangerous precedent for destroying Queensland’s greenbelt and other protected areas.

The proponent has even stated ambitions to link these developments with other large-scale tourism infrastructure (at Sandstone Point) though Pumiceston Passage.

The Planning Minister will decide – with NO right of appeal. He is not required to follow expert departmental advice. People power matters now more than ever.
