Thank you for your incredible support!

The public consultation period for the proposed Coochin Creek Tourist Park has now closed, with over 5000 signatures on the petition and hundreds of submissions lodged for the Tourist Park public consultation. This strong response shows the power of community action.

I have submitted this petition as part of my own personal properly made submission to the Planning Minister. The petition will remain open to continue capturing signatures for the next critically important stage.

What’s Next?
The consultation period for the adjacent mega Outdoor Exhibition and Festival site has now opened, just as the Tourist Park one closed.

It runs from 17 November to 8 December. This proposal would host up to 35,000 people per day/night on a 150-hectare site, with massive movement and activity including noise, heavy vehicle traffic, and weeks of setup and pack-down for each event.

Combined with the tourist park, these developments, would transform a tranquil, flood-prone wetland into an urban-scale precinct. The cumulative impacts include:

  • Significant ecological stress on Ramsar wetlands and the Northern Inter-Urban Break, which is essential to the health of Pumicestone Passage and Moreton Bay Marine Park.
  • Traffic congestion and heavy vehicle movements.
  • Significant noise and light pollution to the local community and nearby Aura residential development.
  • Destruction of the liveability and economic livelihood of the small community directly opposite.
  • Serious safety risks – surrounded on three sides by land designated as 'high potential bushfire intensity.

To add insult to injury, the proponent has publicly stated ambitions to link the  developments, if successful, with other large-scale urban and tourism infrastructure (e.g., Sandstone Point at Bribie), via the Pumicstone Passage, further demonstrating the incompatibility with this highly sensitive area.

A coalition of local and regional resident and environmental community groups has joined together to help inform people about what’s being proposed and what’s at stake. I will share their resources and submission template soon to make it quick and easy for you to lodge a properly made submission.

People power may be the only thing that stops this highly inappropriate development. Please:

  • stay tuned
  • spread the word – share this update widely, talk to others
  • be ready to act.
