Protect Peter Weiss From Being Let Go!

The Issue

Professor Peter Weiss is being let go from UC Santa Cruz after teaching for 11 years! He is one of the best teachers this school has to offer and UC Santa Cruz decided to just ignore all the great feedback he's received from students for 11 whole years and let him go with such short notice! This is not right! He applied to be a tenure track faculty member in November 2020 and didn't even get an interview and now he's being laid off because Santa Cuz hired a tenure track professor to take over his class. They are treating him as if he is an at-will employee who has come in to do a temporary job and is then let go. 11 years of high-level teaching is NOT a temporary job! We are asking the chemistry department to treat Peter with respect and recognize his contributions to this school and the 9000+ students he's had and put some effort into retaining him as a professor here at Santa Cruz!
