Protect Payments in Trinidad and Tobago: Fix the Virtual Assets Bill

The new Virtual Assets Bill is meant to provide safeguards, but as written, its broad language could unintentionally block services like PayPal, remittance apps, and even affect how international payment networks operate here.
That could mean:
💵 People unable to send or receive money affordably
📱 Everyday users losing access to the tools they rely on
🏪 Local businesses struggling to get paid or trade digitally
We agree that regulation is important. But without careful revisions, this Bill risks cutting off essential services and pushing our country toward a cash-only economy 💵 — even though that is not Parliament’s intention.
Trinidad and Tobago should be future-ready, not left behind. Innovation and new technology are not something to fear — they are tools that, when managed responsibly, can help families, businesses, and the wider economy thrive.
We’re asking lawmakers to fix the Bill so it protects citizens while still allowing us to adopt the tools that keep us connected to the world.
