Protect Pastoral and Spiritual Support Centre! University of Plymouth
The Issue
The pastoral and spiritual support building is currently under consultation and at risk of being closed. We would value your support and hearing how this support has helped you. Please send in an email of support: spirtualsupport@plymouth.ac.uk
Fancy a Chat: this programme is in operation the full working week. It is open to everyone and provides emotional support and advice from one of our hardworking volunteers who are there to listen to us. It offers a friendly face to talk to and support around relationships, loss, settling in, loneliness, stress, self-care, managing change, and so much more.
Environment: Pastoral and Spiritual Support provides a non-academic environment where people can go to find support and company. Students who have problems which need more than a personal tutor or the student hub can find a safe space and nice people who can help, listen and give company. In many cases, this place gives support which prevents situations which would spiral into crisis. The building and the services rendered are not exclusive to those who are religious, and everyone is welcome, including those in the LGBTQ+ community.
Battling Social Isolation: Pastoral and Spiritual Support brings people together to find new communities and friends, which makes the University experience so much more valuable. It provides a space for poetry, crafts, games and more. This leads into our next point about international students.
International Students: This service and environment are vital for the international students who make the big decision to come to Plymouth from all over the world, and many of them find their friends here. This space provides a great first connecting point to the UK and to integrate into the culture and the community. It is also a place that celebrates holidays such as Easter, Eid and Nowruz. This is important for everyone who celebrates these holidays and for everyone who wants to learn about new cultures.
