- Its been a month since starting this Petition, and is soon to be presented to Councillors to support the call for a completely better Cycleway and Bridge solution.
PLEASE EMAIL Parramatta Councillors and State Member to refuse the current "Draft Concept Plan", have it withdrawn and fully re-designed with fundamental Riverbank Protections, Restoration and Heritage Context respected.
It would be a grave and regressive mistake for Councillors to be railroaded into a "rubber-stamp" approval of the current Draft (even with minor edits) as it is simply not best-practice.
Real Boardwalks don't ruin Riverbanks. (good examples above).
- Flood Plain City of Parramatta needs a Sponge City Policy - as presented by POWERHOUSE MUSEUM in "Porous Cities" for Sydney Design Week.
- What did the Staff learn to apply directly here in this $28M project...?
- Ask Councillors for this progressive Policy - e.g: Sponge City, Winning Mag
- Specifically not narrowing the natural functioning river with concrete walls of any size, retaining and restoring the OKS "flood shoulder", and existing native trees and habitats.
- Specifically for a new Boardwalk ONLY over water, not a concrete wall.
A full rejection is needed as the Draft appears the product of a flawed "design first, then investigate, then 'mitigate' the impacts" process.
Please write to Councillors. Highlight a request for a Full Design Revision.

It is entirely reasonable & necessary to completely revise the Draft, please be asking for (State Funding to ensure):
- Nature-positive, well informed, best-practice & design for country
- Elevated freestanding accessible boardwalks offering eco-experiences
- Authentic riverbank restoration, regeneration not devastation
- A higher standard of cultural heritage respect and integration
- Sponge City policy to "lead by example" - not new concrete riverbanks
- Aesthetic and embedded art over plain hard engineered dominance
- Minimal impact to not fill / domesticate 'natural' riparian habitat corridors
- Instream water-quality with floating & reed-bed wetland margins
and why not a row-boat hire point at the Marsden Weir deck crossing
