The Issue

The ED-6 trails, known commonly known as  the Quarry Greenway, but technically called the East Quarry Road Trail, spanning 330 acres of lush woodland, is a sanctuary for so many of us who call this community home. The Sinkhole , Boulder and Big Oak trails, as well as their connectors  provide us with a unique opportunity  to experience native wilderness right within our city. As one of many who regularly hike, walk, and bike this vital area, I cannot emphasize enough the sense of peace and connection to nature it provides to us. For dog walkers, boy scouts, trail runners, bikers and hunters, it is an essential part of our  lives, a place where we can truly unwind and reconnect with the world around us.

But it's not just about us. This untouched landscape is a home to countless species of flora and fauna, a thriving ecosystem that supports wildlife that cannot plead their own case. These species depend on the delicate balance of this woodland, a harmony that is now under threat as the city plans to develop this crucial green space.

The development plan proposes to raze this haven, replacing our beloved trails and natural habitats with concrete and construction. While urban development might bring economic benefits, it comes at a considerable environmental cost, one that future generations will bear. The loss of this Greenway would irreplaceably alter the character of our community and diminish the quality of life for all who cherish the natural world.

Moreover, according to research by the National Recreation and Park Association, green spaces are proven to improve mental health, decrease stress, and foster a sense of community. Losing the North Boundary Trail would deprive us of these invaluable benefits and set us back in our commitment to preserving our environment.

We need to stand united in protecting this precious resource. Other cities have embraced creative urban planning solutions that preserve green spaces while still accommodating growth, and we must urge our city planners to explore similar strategies. By signing this petition, you're sending a powerful message that we value this irreplaceable woodland and wish to preserve its natural beauty for generations to come.

Please join me in urging our city officials to halt the development plans and to seek sustainable alternatives that benefit both our community and the environment. Let’s be the voice for this resilient woodland and ensure its protection. Sign the petition now to protect our beloved North Boundary and East Quarry Trails.
