Protect Our Voting Rights:Extend the Candidate Submission Deadline to Ensure Fair Election

The issue

Update 21.8.24

It is a done deal for some major local councils, with no liberal candidates.

We now need to focus on state and federal elections and ensure sanity is restored.

**This is Outrageous.

Voting is compulsory in Australia. However, on September 14, 2024, many NSW voters will have no candidate to vote for!

They will face unfair penalties for not voting (since there is no viable candidate) or will be forced to vote for someone they otherwise would not have.

The recent issues with late Liberal submissions highlight severe incompetence and mismanagement.

However, it is deeply concerning that such administrative errors could lead to a "collective punishment" affecting thousands of responsible citizens.

The NSW Electoral Commission will not extend the deadline for these submissions.

Why??

Laws can be temporarily suspended under certain conditions, such as significant public opposition or unforeseen consequences.

The current situation is a clear example of why such flexibility is needed.

All parties, including the Teals, Greens, and Labor, should support extending the deadline for late Liberal submissions to ensure fair elections; How can any public servant feel legitimate if elected without real opposition and with voters facing penalties for not voting?

To safeguard our democratic principles and ensure fairness in our electoral system, we need to advocate for a review and temporary suspension of the current regulations affecting candidate submissions.

Please sign to support extending the deadline for late Liberal submissions to ensure fair elections and protect our democratic principles.
