We are the  Parkland Go Greeners, an organization that's trying to make the community better and safer place by preventing future problems with our environment and solve current ones.

Our community concern is urban heat islands because it impacts human health and the health of our ecosystems. We know this is an issue because urban heat islands overheat plant life and decrease biodiversity, decrease air quality, can create dangerous and costly health impacts for our community members, and create. We know that Parkland is a low-income community with a majority of communities of color, this is an important issue for us because communities of color are more likely to be impacted by heat islands. Urban heat islands are increasing in Parkland due to the increasing amount of development due to the housing crisis. Additionally, Urban heat island are going to get worse due to global warming - this issue is impacting us right now and will continue to impact future generations. 
                 
Our solution is a policy that creates an enforced permit that homeowners, companies, or developers will need to obtain before can cut any more trees in Parkland WA. Anyone wanting to remove a tree will receive education on the benefits of trees and proper care. This policy addresses urban heat islands by protecting existing canopy as our area changes and development pressure increases.
