Protect our Steward from Retaliation
The Issue
Marcus Cordero is a respected advisor on his team who has consistently carried out his responsibilities professionally and effectively.
As a seasoned employee, Marcus has sought to improve the workplace and the services we provide by speaking out against inequitable policies that harm students.
Beyond that, Marcus takes on a union steward role; speaking up for staff, asking hard questions, and working to ensure our contract is respected.
At this time, Marcus is now facing discipline after he advocated for both students and colleagues.
There is no legitimate reason he should be disciplined as he is fulfilling both his professional responsibilities and his duty to represent his coworkers.
Many of us are concerned that there is a pattern of management targeting employees who speak out or challenge decisions. Whether this is intentional or not, actions like this send a chilling message across the workplace.
This will only create fear and may discourage employees from raising concerns in the future.
Ultimately, we cannot allow a culture of retaliation to take hold.
By signing below, we are calling on management to withdraw this
disciplinary action against Marcus and to respect the rights of employees.
We also believe it is critical that all unit 4 employees stand together in signing this petition. Unity is our strongest protection!
