Protect Our Right to Keep Chickens in Bowling Green – Repeal the Current Ordinance

The Issue

We, the residents and backyard farmers of Bowling Green, urge the City Council to repeal the current ordinance that limits residents to five non-crowing poultry per property and bans roosters entirely.

This ordinance conflicts with Warren County’s Right to Farm law and restricts our ability to maintain small-scale, responsible backyard farming. Chickens provide eggs, natural fertilizer, and education opportunities for families and schools.

We ask the City Council to:

Review and update the ordinance to allow residents more flexibility in raising poultry.
Ensure city regulations align with state and county agricultural protections.
Protect the rights of local residents to engage in small-scale farming without undue restriction.
If you live in Bowling Green, have a backyard flock, or care about protecting local agriculture, sign this petition to make your voice heard. Share your experiences, concerns, or support for responsible urban farming in the comments.

Together, we can ensure our city supports sustainable, community-oriented farming while respecting residents’ rights.
