Protect Our Pets: End Custody for Abusers in Domestic Violent Cases

The Issue

People who are in domestic violent relationship take a huge risk of being manipulated and being taken advantage of. In my case I lost my dog because my ex boyfriend had made conditions for me to see my dog and since he had those conditions the judge granted him custody of my dog after we broke up - despite the coercion and manipulation. Not only me but many other victims in domestic violent relationships take a huge risk of losing their animals just so that the abuser can assert their control over the other person to punish them or get back at them. This unfortunately was the case for me when my ex won custody of my dog due to current laws. This IS huge set back for domestic violent victims.

If things do change for domestic violence victims, especially regarding coercion laws could provide better protection and support for victims, making it easier for them to seek help and escape abusive situations. With effective legal measures, victims might feel more empowered to stand up against their abusers without fear of retaliation. This could lead to a decrease in incidents of domestic violence and create safer environments for everyone, including children and pets. Plus, increased awareness and support systems could foster a culture that doesn’t tolerate abuse, ultimately helping to break the cycle.

Additionally if laws don’t change to better protect victims of domestic violence, especially regarding coercion, a lot is at stake. Victims may continue to face manipulation and control, which can lead to ongoing psychological trauma. They might feel trapped, unable to leave abusive situations due to fear of retaliation or lack of support. Without stronger laws, abusers might not face appropriate consequences, which could perpetuate the cycle of violence. It’s crucial for victims to have legal protections that empower them to seek help and escape harmful environments. Change could lead to safer communities and help break the cycle.

Immediate action is crucial in addressing domestic violence, particularly concerning coercion. If laws are updated to better protect victims, it can lead to significant positive changes. Victims would feel safer and more empowered to leave abusive situations, knowing they have legal support. Without immediate action, the cycle of abuse could continue, leading to ongoing trauma for victims and potentially harming children and pets involved. The importance of acting now cannot be overstated; it can save lives, provide necessary support, and foster a society that prioritizes safety and well-being for all. We need to create a system that actively protects and supports those affected by domestic violence.
