New Human Trafficking Legislation

Human trafficking is a growing crisis in Canada, with majority of victims being Indigenous females and youth under the age of 25. Protect Our People is a grassroots social movement created with the intent of providing emotional support to victims and survivors, sharing resources/services and raising awareness to the human trafficking crisis. We like to focus on preventative and protective measures as a means of combatting human trafficking within Canada. For this specific petition, we want to push for a new legislation that ensures medical professionals (doctors, nurses, etc.) medical administration officers, and emergency first responders to receive mandatory training to identify human trafficking victims. It's estimated that nearly half of victims come into contact with some sort of medical professional during their exploitation and unfortunately there is no protocol or screenings set in place to help and identity these victims.
