Petition updateProtect Our Peace: End Noise Pollution from Cars and Fireworks in Pendle

We’re closing in on 2,000 signatures – please help us get there

These last few days have been some of the worst we have experienced for late-night and early-morning fireworks, along with supercars being driven aggressively and noisily around Nelson.

Unfortunately, reporting these incidents to the Police can be a long and frustrating process. You can spend 10–15 minutes on hold, by which time the fireworks or offending vehicles have often disappeared. If you select “noise” as the reason for calling, the Police system may simply refer you to the Local Authority and end the call. The online reporting system is not much better.

Despite the current focus on tackling anti-social behaviour, there still doesn’t appear to be a clear and effective way for residents to report these incidents and have meaningful action taken.

We are now approaching our target of 2,000 petition signatures.

Once we reach 2,000, we intend to step things up. We will send the petition and supporting evidence to Lancashire Police, our local MP, local councillors and the Fire & Rescue Service, calling for stronger, more consistent and more visible action against persistent late-night fireworks and excessively noisy and anti-social driving.

We will also request meetings with the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner to put residents’ concerns directly to them. In addition, we plan to issue a press release and seek coverage from the local media.

We need your help with the next stage.

If you have signed the petition, please consider adding a comment on the Change.org petition page explaining how late-night fireworks and vehicle noise affect you and your family. Personal accounts will help demonstrate that this isn't simply an occasional nuisance – it is having a genuine impact on people’s sleep, wellbeing and quality of life.

We are also looking for local residents who would be willing to join us at any meetings with the Police or other authorities. If you would like to be involved, please email mikewlane9@gmail.com.

And finally, please share the petition with friends, family and neighbours. We are very close to that important milestone of 2,000 local signatures.

The more people who support it, the harder it will be for the authorities to ignore.
