Protect Our Peace: End Noise Pollution from Cars and Fireworks in Pendle

Protect Our Peace: End Noise Pollution from Cars and Fireworks in Pendle
The Issue
Residents along the M65 corridor are facing increasing disruption to daily life due to excessive noise from modified cars, hired supercars and illegal fireworks.
Because our area sits in a valley, noise travels far, meaning even a single car or firework display can disturb thousands of people. And multiple cars revving and racing around make the area sound like we are living next to a Formula 1 Racetrack. This is not a minor inconvenience; it is a persistent issue affecting sleep, wellbeing, and quality of life.
Despite repeated complaints, enforcement appears minimal. A recent Freedom of Information Request revealed that in the Nelson area alone there were 248 fireworks complaints in three years, but only ONE penalty notice and NO Prosecutions.
This sends the wrong message; that this behaviour is tolerated.
What’s happening?
- Loud, modified vehicles and supercars being driven irresponsibly
- Repeated revving in residential areas, at all hours of the day and night, especially in the early evening and throughout the night
- Fireworks being set off outside legal hours, often for prolonged periods
What needs to change
The laws already exist. Police have the powers to act, including issuing warnings, fines, prosecutions and seizing vehicles. We are calling on Lancashire Police to:
- Enforce laws on excessive vehicle noise and anti-social driving
- Take action against illegal use of fireworks
- Introduce a zero-tolerance approach to repeat offenders
- Respond consistently to community complaints
Why this matters?
A small number of individuals are causing widespread disruption across our communities. Residents should not have to tolerate ongoing noise nuisance in their own homes.
It’s time for action.
Sign this petition to demand enforcement and restore peace to our communities.
