Protect Our Neighbourhood: Oppose Rooming House Near George Pentland Gardens
The issue
Petition to Local Council and Relevant Planning Authorities - stop the proposed rooming house at 2 Victoria Pde Frankston opposite the George Pentland Botanical Gardens
Planning Application 349/2020/P/F
We, the undersigned residents and members of the community, are raising our concerns regarding the proposed rooming house development in our neighbourhood.
Our area is a quiet residential community made up of families, elderly residents, and long-term locals who value the safety and wellbeing of the neighbourhood. Directly across the road from the proposed development is a local park that is heavily used by children and families for recreation, play, and community gathering.
The park is a central part of our neighbourhood. Many children in the area walk, ride bikes, and play there regularly, often after school and on weekends. Parents and grandparents frequently accompany younger children, making the park a shared space that supports the health, safety, and connection of our community.
Residents are concerned that the location of a rooming house directly opposite this park and within a street of family homes may not be an appropriate placement for this type of development. Developments such as rooming houses require careful planning, appropriate infrastructure, and suitable locations to ensure they are well managed and do not negatively impact the surrounding community.
Our concerns are not about excluding people who need housing. We recognise the importance of providing accommodation and support for vulnerable members of the community. However, we strongly believe that developments of this nature should be located in areas where appropriate services, oversight, and infrastructure already exist.
The current proposal raises concerns about:
The safety and wellbeing of children who regularly use the park across the road
The suitability of the location within a family-focused residential area
Potential impacts on community safety and neighbourhood stability
Whether appropriate planning considerations have been fully addressed
Our community values a safe environment for children, elderly residents, and families. We believe that planning decisions should prioritise the wellbeing of existing residents and ensure that developments are placed in locations where they are most appropriate.
We call on the council and relevant authorities to:
Reconsider the proposed location of this rooming house development
Conduct further community consultation with local residents
Ensure that developments of this nature are placed in appropriate locations with suitable support and infrastructure
By signing this petition, we ask decision-makers to carefully consider the concerns of the local community and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our neighbourhood.
Protect our community spaces. Protect our neighbourhood.
