Protect Our Neighborhood: Say No to 312 New Housing Units on Fremont Blvd!
The Issue
We, the residents of Central Fremont, are deeply concerned about the proposed construction of 312 housing units on Fremont Blvd—an already overloaded and vital road in our community. With a middle school, elementary school, high school, and a church all within a one-mile stretch, Fremont Blvd is heavily congested, especially during school hours and weekends. This congestion poses significant safety risks for families and children and disrupts the daily lives of residents.
Adding 312 new homes to this area will only push our already strained infrastructure to the brink. Here’s what we’re facing:
Traffic Worsening: Fremont Blvd is already a bottleneck during peak hours. Increased vehicle volume from hundreds of additional residents will lead to longer delays and more safety concerns.
Overburdened Schools: Parkmont Elementary, Centerville Middle School, and Washington High School are critical to our community, yet the elementary school is already at capacity with a waitlist. New families moving into the development will only worsen this issue.
Reduced Quality of Life: Noise, air pollution, and safety hazards will increase with higher traffic volumes, diminishing the livability of our neighborhood.
We are not opposed to development, but it must be done responsibly. We urge city officials to:
Conduct a comprehensive traffic impact study to evaluate congestion and safety concerns, especially during peak school and church hours.
Investigate road improvements, such as widening Fremont Blvd or adding dedicated turn lanes, to ease congestion.
Carry out a school capacity impact study to assess how additional students will affect already overcrowded schools.
Engage with the community to find a more suitable location for such a large development that aligns with existing infrastructure.
Ensure funding and plans for infrastructure upgrades are in place before approving the project to mitigate negative effects.
We believe in preserving the peace, safety, and character of Central Fremont. Development should enhance our community, not create more problems for its residents.
If you share these concerns, please sign this petition and stand with us in urging the city to make responsible choices for our neighborhood's future. Together, we can ensure that development doesn’t come at the cost of our community’s well-being.
