Protect Our Legacy: Say NO to Renaming Rolling Oaks Park

The Issue

Rolling Oaks Park isn’t just land—it’s a legacy. Established in 1978 with state and federal support, Rolling Oaks Park was created for the people, to be preserved for public outdoor recreation. For decades, it has stood as a symbol of our community’s strength, identity, and history. Now, a Miami Gardens council member is pushing to rename the park—without full community input or historical regard. We believe this move disrespects the original intent of the park and threatens to erase the cultural and historical value it holds for long-term residents.

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Miami Gardens to:

1.    Honor the original name and legacy of Rolling Oaks Park.

2.    Stop all attempts to rename the park without full, transparent community input.

3.    Respect the federal agreement that helped establish the park in perpetuity for public recreation.

Let’s protect our history before it’s rewritten. Sign to keep Rolling Oaks Park’s name—and our legacy—alive.

Renaming Rolling Oaks Park violates the spirit of the original grant agreement and disregards the voices of the people who’ve built memories there. The park’s name is part of a federal commitment tied to our community’s rights to open, green space. Changing it would be more than cosmetic—it would be erasure.
