Happy Easter, everyone. Just a quick update on the golf course expansion at Copetown Woods.
Information from the City, via Abdullah Pasha from Planning and Economic Development, following a recent request, indicates that the proposed by-law amendment has been delayed by the applicant.
We don’t yet fully understand what this means in the bigger picture. At a recent community meeting, it was suggested—somewhat jokingly—that perhaps the applicants are finally preparing to tell the truth to the City and Province. After some laughter, we agreed that would truly be a sign that Easter does contain miracles.
As a reminder, our path forward is to hold the City and Province accountable to the rules they themselves established. These politicians all work for us—they are our employees.
Unfortunately, due to influence and old-fashioned intimidation, this doesn’t always happen.
The Doug Ford government ultimately has authority here, as it oversees municipal processes. We need to remain vocal in our efforts. Even if the City of Hamilton rejects the application, the applicants may take it to the former Ontario Municipal Board—now a tribunal process introduced by the Ford government—which many feel lacks transparency and could be subject to influence.
Governments at both levels often resist public scrutiny, but we must continue to shine a light on these processes. We are working alongside several environmental groups that have been supportive in opposing this application and advocating for its rejection.
Please stay engaged. Contact your provincial representative and remind them they will be held accountable at the ballot box. Perhaps it’s time for the Ford government to go the way of the Edsel.
