Protect Our Land: Say No to Golf Course Expansion

Protect Our Land: Say No to Golf Course Expansion
The Issue
Hi Neighbours,
This petition has been posted on behalf of Friends of Copetown Farmland, a group of individuals who actively oppose the expansion of Copetown Woods onto Farmland.
As you are probably aware, Copetown Woods has indicated plans to expand its existing 18-hole golf course with a new 10-hole layout. Plans for the expansion were recently confirmed by the City of Hamilton, although rumours of this have been circulating for over a year. This expansion would require an amendment to current zoning legislation allowing development on protected Greenbelt land.
If this request is approved, the impact of this decision would extend far beyond our community. The exceptional use of Greenbelt lands for developmental use would set a new precedent, making all Greenbelt lands vulnerable to use by developers.
We have reached out to the City of Hamilton and several government officials, but our concerns have gone unanswered. Meanwhile, Copetown Woods continues to brush aside the issues we’ve raised. As a community, it’s time to stand together and voice our discontent. Signing this petition is the first step in showing that we will not accept changes that endanger our agricultural heritage, rural character, and collective well-being.
Our rural community is built on the hard work of farmers, local tradespeople, and families who rely on clean water, healthy soil, and safe roads. Now, a proposed golf course expansion into protected greenbelt woodlands puts all of that at risk. Not only does it threaten vital wildlife habitats and local water tables, but it also encroaches on farmland that sustains our way of life.
Beyond the environmental dangers, this expansion could bring more traffic—and more incidents of impaired driving—onto roads our families depend on every day. It might also lower property values, increase taxes, and even lead to costly damage to homes and businesses nearby.
By signing this petition, you’ll help protect our farmland, keep our roads safe, and ensure fair land-use decisions that respect rural families. Let’s send a message that our community, our livelihoods, and our children’s future are more important than profit-driven developments.
