Dear Village Board of Trustees, 

We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and friends of the Village of Mount Horeb, strongly oppose the proposed construction of a four-story apartment building in the heart of our thriving downtown shopping district at 214-220 East Main Street.

Our downtown is a vibrant, walkable, and historic area that serves as the cultural and economic heart of our village. The proposed development is out of scale with the surrounding buildings and threatens to disrupt the unique character that makes our village special.

We are concerned that this project will:

• Undermine the small-scale charm that draws both residents and visitors to our shops, restaurants, and local events
• Overwhelm local infrastructure and increase traffic congestion and parking demand
• Create a precedent for further large-scale developments that are incompatible with our village’s historic and architectural identity
• Threaten local businesses, many of which rely on visibility, foot traffic, and a cohesive downtown atmosphere

We urge our village officials and planning board to preserve the integrity and scale of our downtown by rejecting this proposal and supporting growth that complements—not compromises—our community’s values.

Let’s keep our village a place where people want to gather, shop, and live—without losing the charm that brought us here in the first place.
