Protect Our Community Skate Park from City Hall's Takeover

The Issue

My son, along with many other people in our community, has found a safe haven in our local skate park. This park is more than just ramps and rails, it's a platform where people from all walks of life are learning, thriving, and honing their skills. It's a space we share, watching as they master their own paths. The heart of our community is under threat, as the city council plans to takeover this cherished space with a new city hall. The skate park’s high usage and its close proximity to the library — a trusted symbol of knowledge and community safety — create a powerful synergy that enhances both connection and security for our residents. This works, let's keep it this way. According to a study by the Tony Hawk Foundation, parks like ours can deter young people from crime and drug use, foster healthy lifestyles, and promote community building. The thought of tearing away such positivity is unbearable. Therefore, we urge the city council to reconsider the proposal. Keep the skate park. Preserve our community spirit. Sign this petition. City Council is expected to have public input on the adoption of this site for the new City Hall on 4/15.

Update 3/27/25: They are discussing making the skate park part of the City Hall. Its a good direction, but I'm not convinced its what is best for our community. They need to have representation from the skate park in these discussions.
